Bride and groom laughing at speech

7 memorable Best Man Jokes I hear while at a wedding

Love or loath them Best man speeches are expected to contain at least one or two jokes. As a wedding photographer, I hear quite a few speeches and now the internet is involved I do tend to be able to work out the ones from the internet. This does not mean that they are poor, at least the best man has done some research and taken his job seriously, in fact, I’m probably one of the only people in the room who has gone to more than 10 weddings in their life let alone over 500!
Jokes are a great way to warm up the crowd and your peers’ involvement is guaranteed even if they don’t laugh as a groan at the joke is just as effective to get their participation in what is to come.

This is a great way to introduce your speech to the room as it is about the advice you’ve received before, giving authenticity to it.

I’ve been informed that my speech should be like a mini-skirt. Short enough to keep it interesting but Long enough to cover the essentials.

A great one-liner, if you can pull off a witty pun go for it, also an easy one to remember.

It has been an emotional day, even the cake is in tiers

The Best Man’s Nerves

I personally like this one as it always gets a reaction from the audience, slightly naughty but the little ones in the room won’t understand it.

Firstly I’d like to say I’m very nervous about making this speech. In fact, this must be the fourth time today I have stood up from a warm seat with a piece of paper in my hand.

The Brides Nerves

This one gets you on the side of the bride before going into the groom’s chequered past, if that is your plan it’s always a good idea to make the bride smile before the risqué section.

If there is anybody feeling nervous, apprehensive and queasy at the thought of lies ahead, it’s probably because you’ve just married [insert Grooms name]

The Groom’s Luck Another gentle compliment to the bride at the groom’s expense. Not too insulting and both families will laugh at this one.

I do have to say [insert groom’s name], just how lucky you are. You will leave today with a wife who is warm, loving, caring and beautiful. And [insert bride’s name], how lucky you are as well. You leave here today having gained a lovely dress and a wonderful bouquet of flowers.

The Upper Hand

Towards the end of the speech, it is nice to give a bit of advice for the future. This one works especially well coming from a man who is married.

[insert bride’s name], put your hand on the table, please. [insert groom’s name], place yours on top of [insert bride’s name]. I’d like to inform you [insert groom’s name] that is the last time your wife will you have the upper hand.

The Honeymoon

To end your speech with a joke is a risk so make sure the delivery is correct and that the room will appreciate it. I have heard this one go down on both sides of the fence. Although this is a naughty joke it has a safety net that the little ones in the room won’t understand, as a parent myself I know that I’d appreciate it.

I do hope that [insert bride and groom’s name] enjoy their honeymoon in Wales. I assume that’s where they are gong anyway… When I asked [insert groom’s name] what he was doing after the wedding he said he was going to Bangor for a fortnight.

Well, there you go, my favourite 7. If you have more to add to this list please feel free to add them in the comments section below.
