Long shadows on the Lawn at Chilworth Manor wedding

Chilworth Manor is a sizable venue to host a large wedding. It has one of the largest capacities in the local area and as a bonus has plenty of rooms for your guests to stay too. Close to Southampton Airport for international travellers.

As a wedding photographer, I appreciate the effort put into the grounds, they are always kept perfectly and the lawn captures the evening light, expect to have long summer evenings out on the terrace sipping cool drinks. Although you do not get exclusive use of the grounds there are plenty of secluded spots in its woodland to get away for Portraits.

Drone Photography is ok here even given the proximity to the airport.

History of Chilworth Manor Hotel, Southampton

This gem tucked away in the heart of the English countryside has quite the story to tell, so let me whisk you away on a brief journey through its history.

Chilworth Manor, not to be confused with any other spot that might share its charming name, is a vision of Edwardian elegance set amidst the lush landscapes of Hampshire. The manor we see today was built in the early 20th century, but the land’s history stretches back much further, whispering tales of times gone by.

The estate’s roots dig deep into the medieval era, with records of a manorial estate in Chilworth dating back to the Domesday Book of 1086 – talk about ancient! Over the centuries, the land has seen a myriad of owners, each adding their layer to its rich tapestry.

Fast forward to the Edwardian period, and that’s when Chilworth Manor as we know it began to take shape. The manor was built in the grandiose style of the time, designed to be a statement of wealth and sophistication. It was the brainchild of Arthur and Agnes Wilson, who envisioned a country retreat that blended the elegance of traditional English architecture with the comforts of modern amenities. They certainly had a knack for the finer things in life!

The manor was equipped with lavish gardens, designed by the renowned horticulturist Gertrude Jekyll. These gardens were no mere afterthought; they were a masterpiece of design, meant to complement the manor and provide a tranquil escape for its residents. Imagine strolling through those gardens, camera in hand, capturing the play of light through the foliage – pure magic!

Over the years, Chilworth Manor has played host to a variety of uses, from a gracious family home to serving more commercial purposes. Today, it stands as a testament to the elegance of a bygone era, offering a peek into the past for those who wander its halls and gardens.

Chilworth Manor is more than just a building; it’s a character in its own right, with stories etched into its stones and whispers of the past lingering in its gardens. Whether you’re a history buff, a photography enthusiast, or simply in search of a slice of tranquillity, Chilworth Manor is a destination that promises to enchant and inspire.
